Introduction

Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1980 during the inception of the Institute. Department of Mathematics forms the supporting group to various disciplines. The staff members of the department are committed to innovation in teaching, excellence in basic and applied research and enhancement of the quality of student’s life. The department has a research Centre recognized by VTU in the year 2017. Department has published more than 180 research papers in various International/National Journals and presented more than 30 research papers in various National / International conferences. Thrust areas in research are Differential Geometry and Fluid Mechanics. The department has applied for different projects in VGST and SERB. Department has conducted national level workshops/conferences to cater the needs of the faculty and students

# Program Outcomes : Graduates of the Program:
PO - 1 Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO - 2 Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development.
PO - 3 Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required.
PO - 4 Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. 
PO - 5 Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. 
PO - 6 Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for its impact on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture and environment.
PO - 7 Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, human values, diversity and inclusion; adhere to national & international laws
PO - 8 Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse/multi-disciplinary teams.
PO - 9 Communicate effectively and inclusively within the engineering community and society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations considering cultural, language, and learning differences.
PO - 10 Apply knowledge and understanding of engineering management principles and economic decision-making and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, and to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
PO - 11 Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability for i) independent and life-long learning ii) adaptability to new and emerging technologies and iii) critical thinking in the broadest context of technological change.

Class room

Well equipped digital class rooms to handle the I year classes are situated in the basic science block.

To cater the need of students, the department is having a separate reference library and issue the book based on the student requirements.

Research Initiatives

Mathematics department has been recognized as research centre from VTU, in the year 2017 to pursue Ph.D. (Full Time / Part Time). Currently one research scholar has been awarded Ph.D. and five research scholars are working for their Ph.D. degree programme. A separate research lab with modern equipment’s is established to conduct research in various areas like Differential Geometry, Fluid Mechanics etc. A grant of 5.0 lakh rupees was received from VGST under RGS/F scheme to modernize the research lab. Faculty members of the department are regularly publishing their research in peer reviewed National/International Journals and more than 180 research papers were published in National/International Journals.
